Pixelord – Iron and Cream

Label: Leisure System

Buy Physical / Digital: Boomkat

So I’ve been on a massive kick for a whole lot of Russian beat makers recently. A.B.S.T.R.A.C.T, DZA, Oh! Dee and right now a young producer going by the name of Pixelord. I first started listening to them from the wonderful Far From Moscow free release compilations on Bandcamp which contained anything from minimal tech house to glitchy wonky beats. I followed trails and rabbit holes and found myself some nice sounds in Pixelord.

There is a lot of variation on this short EP, opening up with the title track is some smooth shuffling and pitch shifted vocal samples that are joined by a soulful croon in the distance. Cycloferon takes things into 8-bit game music territory with more bleeps and bloops than you can poke a stick at. Moving into the heavily Raga influenced Radiozilla which comprises deep wobbly bass and off kilter beat that is hard hitting and true. The EP closes with my favourite track In the Mine. This piece is a sweet slice of garage dubstep with the classic pitch shifted vocals and all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a top class producer.
