Benjamin Dauer – Burning of Wine

Burning of Wine is dark, fragile and frightening. And I love it. When I began to play the album I realised that my speakers were probably not going to handle the dense sounds they were throwing at me, so I switched over to my nice headphones and sunk into my chair for just over 40 minutes. There are pieces on this album were I get scared, at least for my sanity purely because the ambient sounds are very haunting, closing you in and forcing you to pay attention. Benjamin isn’t afraid of pushing the listeners boundaries here, and with the dark imagery he conjures come passages of light, the dreamy closing track Exploding Into Space (hole in the sky mix) I find transports me to deep-sea diving territory as the suns’ rays glisten through the aquatic blue.

These are heavy sounds for intense listening and only add to the extraordinary breadth of Benjamin’s musical landscape that he has created. This is a free release on Distance Recordings, pick it up here!
