Dream Diary 1.0 – A Close Encounter

Prelude

So about two nights ago I experienced a very intense, real dream. I have decided that in order to preserve these quasi-real experiences I will lay them out as accurately as possible in this blog. Yes, I know this blog is primarily about music but I have included additional ruminations along the way and I hope that you find my dream diary interesting and engaging.

The diary will be presented as per the title. Dream Diary will preceed the catalogue number, the reason for a catalogue number is to have the ability to add any recurring dreams on as appendix or dreams that appear to have connections to and or are a continuation of any kind. The catalogue number will be followed by a short title for the dream, purely for reference at a later date if I need.

A Close Encounter

This dream was quite distressing and for myself it was extremely difficult to distinguish between what was reality and what was my mind in an unconcious expressive state. The reason for this intrepid occlusion of reality was the fact that I was dreaming about not being able to sleep. This will come into play later.

It began with me lying on my left shoulder, my head turned so that my right ear was facing the ceiling and I was having great difficulty falling asleep. All of a sudden I hear a large crash outside my house, not so close as to shake the foundations of my dwelling but close enough to scare the shit out of me. I hear people spilling onto the street to see what has happened, and although I never actually saw what it was my mind decided to explain the noise as a projectile falling from space – much like a stray piece of satelite crashes to earth, except that it happened in a highly populated area.

These sounds continue to build, as if my street is being invaded. Time passes seamlessly as I believe I trudge the boundary between wakefulness and sleep. As I lie there, still on my left shoulder with ear facing the ceiling, I begin to hear this noise creep slowly. The noise is comparable to a very science fiction sound, a laser but contiually running. It begins softly and continues to grow until it reaches an unbearable level. It almost feels as if the sounds is physically trying to force itself into my ear, like it is an actual object being pushed in. The sound sucks into my ear and it feels as if something has hijacked my body. I can’t move my arm and a vague paralysis descends upon my body.

It is at this point that I think I wake up, but i’m still not completely sure if I am awake. The blur between wakefullness and sleep was I believe brought upon by the fact that I was dreaming about not sleeping. I awoke in the exact same position that I was in in the dream – It was disorientating. As I lay there in a perpetual state of mild shock I found it difficult to move my hand, I could do it but my autonomic psychomotor system had seemingly been shut – I had to actually tell my brain to move my hand.

This dream completely threw me, I was in the dark as to what was and what was not reality – and the fact that I was in a sense meta-dreaming (dreaming about something directly preceeding a dream state) was profoundly interesting. I just wonder what the hell entered my ear.

Postlude

I am very interested in interpretations of my dreams, feel free to post one or many – however strange. Thank you.

This is as complete as my memory permits me to remember – thanks for reading ๐Ÿ™‚

Interesting and somewhat frightening experience. Sounds a little like sleep paralysis. But then again, the fact that you can’t tell whether you’re awake when you’ve apparently woken up suggests a false awakening.

I like that you’re including a dream diary in this blog, even though it’s predominantly about music. Very cool!
