Gregory Alan Isakov – That Sea, The Gambler

Gregory is my proud find of the year, he is a rare talent who has a brilliant way with words and an ear for wonderful melodies. His gentle playing embodies dusk and carries a certain level of reminiscent beauty with it. That Sea, The Gambler marks his third release which gave him a name on the folk internet waves. The album precedes his latest long player This EMpty Northern Hemisphere and portrays a somewhat less textured affair but nonetheless aesthetically pleasing sound. His off kilter folk ties go hand in hand with his soft and laboured vocal chords – whispering to you fromdown a hall, wailing from the distance and serenading beneath a ficticious full moon. It is the music of the warm nights driving down the highway, road tripping, relaxing as soft chords take your breath away. Pure magic.
